iPhonestic brings you Why iPhone would never be same without Steve Jobs. Not only iPhone, the whole company would never be same without him. Here are some reasons.
He was the strategic visionary behind all Apple products, which made Apple the most valuable company in the world. Steve Jobs returned to Apple in mid 90′s when analysts were giving the company a little more time than six months, and then he moved to most creative phase of his life where he came up with idea of iPod, iPhone, iPad, and iTunes music store. Apple is a powerful brand name which enjoys profit margin twice than it’s competitors. Apple is selling products in premium prices because Apple products are pleasing to eye and really easy to use. Something Jobs understands only too well.
A few years ago, Jobs said ”You can’t just ask customers what they want and then try to give it to them. By the time you get it built, they’ll want something new.” That was his approach to products throughout his career. He never tried to built what people wanted, he tried to give something to fall in love with. His philosophy was that, people don’t know what they want unless you show it to them.
Another important point is, Will they take the big risks after Jobs. Let me take you back in 2007, when Apple launched iPhone. There were lot of people in industry who scoffed or snickered. Many of them called it a toy. Research in Motion (RIM) openly mocked it and completely dismissed the iPhone as a competitor to BlackBerry. Apple had lot to come up with a new phone, it took years and it took a lot of money. It took lot of relationship-building, and there was no guarantee of success. Steve Jobs took similar risk with iPad and it too was loved by the people. Will Apple be willing to take big risks ? And will they be smart enough to take right kind of risks ? I think it’s hard to imagine someone doing it like Steve Jobs.
Steve Job’s management style was not normal. He was abrasive, confrontational, and borderline-inappropriate. He called people with their name and demeaned their humanity, and plenty of Apple employees says that Jobs pushed them to do greatest work of their career. Lots of people from outside appalled by the stories of Steve Job‘s behavior, but the insiders will tell you that he was very charming and enthusiastic. It’s very hard that Apple would get leader like Jobs which could push people to do great and have perfectionism like Jobs.
Once Jobs said ”I’m actually as proud of the things we haven’t done as the things [we] have done. Innovation is saying ‘no’ to a 1,000 things.” I think you would remember when Apple promised to launch iPhone 4 white on the day of launch and they delayed it many times because of technical issues. The product wasn’t right and Apple didn’t launch the product, many companies would have launched it without correcting that problem. Apple didn’t break the trust of the people. Will they be able to maintain their standards as Steve Jobs did ?
Many CEO’s hyperbole to promote their products and only Steve Jobs get a lot of people to believe it. This has to do with Job‘s charisma and communication style that force people to think that, If he thinks it’s big then it must be an important thing. His ability to promote products had worth more than millions of marketing. It’s hard even to think that Apple will get CEO like Steve Jobs.
